Isolation Tank
アイソレーションタンク
Floating meditation,Isolation Tank
Traveling isn't just about boarding a plane and going to distant places; it's also an opportunity to journey within your inner world, leading to new discoveries and realizations. Throughout humanity's millennia-long history, peaceful times have been rare. Even in the midst of our perpetually chaotic world, spiritual journeys, such as those driven by faith and religion, have often led individuals to inner peace. At Kourinkyo, we guide you into a deep meditative state by shutting out the noise of the external world, allowing you to encounter your inner self.

An isolation tank is a device designed to achieve a state of deep meditation by isolating
oneself from various external stimuli such as light, sound, and tactile sensations. It is a
tank filled with a high-concentration Epsom salt (magnesium sulphate) solution, which is
said to provide approximately five times the buoyancy of the Sea, allowing the body to
float and experience a near-zero gravity sensation. This flotation allows the muscles of
the body to be released from the effects of gravity. Through this muscle relaxation
effect, it becomes possible to effectively relax the entire body without relying on
external stimulation.
Studies have shown that brainwaves inside the tank reach a state similar to shallow
sleep, approaching the conscious state that experienced meditators can achieve. The
sensation of floating in a liquid with a temperature close to body temperature is said to
be similar to the sensation of a baby in the womb in amniotic fluid. This sensation helps guide consciousness into a deep meditative state
The Expected effects of an isolation tank
Relaxation

By floating with the high buoyancy of water, which is about five times that of seawater, you experience a state of near weightlessness. This state induces deep muscle relaxation and is thought to be akin to the sensations achieved by seasoned meditators, who isolate their senses and accept the images that arise in their minds. It's believed to provide a highly effective relaxation experience.

Fatigue recovery

By surrendering your body to the sensation of floating and shutting down your five senses, the brain is liberated from processing external stimuli, which accounts for nearly 90% of neural activity. This helps reduce accumulated stress.

FAQ
Q
Is it okay to be a beginner at meditation?

We welcome beginners. The isolation tank is a device for artificially reaching a physical state that can only be reached by skilled meditators, so even first-time meditators can experience the sensation of meditation. However, please understand in advance that any benefits and effects will vary depending on your physical condition and mood.

Q
Are friends and family able to participate as well?

There are two isolation tank rooms so depending on availability, up to 2 people are able to use the isolation tank respectively at the same time. Please note that it is not possible for more than one person to enter the tank.

Q
What should I wear?

Normally, in order to minimise physical sensation, it is recommended that you try it without any clothes, but if you prefer otherwise, it is also possible to wear a bathing suit.(In which case, please bring a bathing suit)

Q
Is there any chance of drowning if I fall asleep in the tank?

Due to the extremely strong buoyancy, you will not unconsciously roll over without touching your hands or feet. In fact, many people sleep soundly during the experience and feel deeply relaxed.

Q
Is it possible to participate if I have a fear of claustrophobia or dark places?

Since a strong sense of anxiety reduces the effectiveness of meditation, it is not recommended to participate, so please do so at your own discretion. The tank is about the size of a double bed, and you can open and close the door along with turning the lights on and off by yourself.
